Marni’s clothes draw from art so it’s no wonder that the fashion brand’s second New York boutique was transformed from a former art gallery on East 67th Street. Opened this week, the boutique, located just off Madison Avenue, features a vibrant and stylized design, conceived by Marni founder and creative director Consuelo Castiglioni and London-based architects, Sybarite. The two-floor, 2700-square foot retail space draws from geometry, every aspect having a unique angular simplicity that complements the origami aspects of the clothing. Polished stainless steel panelling wraps around the ground floor, carefully placed so that it becomes a hanging rack for dresses and tops. The fiberglass tables display colorful accessories, echoing modernism and minimalism and proving entirely functional. The cool palate of the room (lilac and gray) combined with the uncomplicated décor suits the avant-garde take Marni has on fashion, the ideal manner in which to showcase the collections.
